He works at the San Fransisco Fire Department.

He enjoys playing chess which he is pretty good at. His favorite workout is boxing, a throwback to his younger days. And he considers smoking a few cigarettes a day a pretty nice hobby.

He grew up in San Fransisco with his father (his mother died when he was little) that seemed to have too many rules, to many lessons to learn. Because of this and a few other so called injustices during his teenage years, Asuma's relationship with his father became more than a little strained which caused him to stay away from home as much as possible. He never got into much trouble while away, only getting brought home by the police a couple of times. Mostly Asuma did whatever he wanted to do, not what peer pressure told him to do. (The only exception to this was cigarettes.) The group of people he hung out with during this time introduced him to boxing. Up until he graduated high school, if Asuma wasn't at home, he was at the gym. He never tried to participate in the sport professionally, but he was in a few fights which won him a couple of dollars here and there. To him, this was better than working part-time for $5 an hour.

By the time he graduated high school, the strain between him and his father finally became a full break. Asuma ended up leaving the house intending never to come back. He spent the next four years of his life in Oregon doing odd jobs like construction while participating in a few boxing matches that took him to different cities across the country. It wasn't until the age of twenty-one that he felt like he should be doing more and became a part of his town's volunteer fire department. This was the time of his life that Asuma felt like he was starting to settle down. He started understanding a few of the things his father was trying to teach him. This caused him to look at his life and try to make a straight path for it and not the zigzagging one he had been on for most of his life.

He moved to Northern California and went to school to become a fire fighter. After graduating two years later with a degree in fire science, he started his fire fighting career in an apprenticeship at a local fire department. This part of his training took four years to complete and at the end he moved back to his hometown to became a part of the San Fransisco Fire Department.

Being twenty-eight now, Asuma feels he has grown up a lot. He has even started repairing his relationship with his father even if is father is still trying to make sure he learns something about life that only an older, wiser person can instill. Most of it still doesn't make a lot of sense, but, knowing his father, it will in due time.
